The documented moment

Razer’s January 2026 announcement presented Project AVA as an evolution of its earlier esports-coaching concept into an animated desktop companion. The company described a holographic avatar display, personalization, camera and microphone inputs, and PC Vision features. This entry records that vendor-announced concept. The transferable practice

Ambient presence changes the consent model. Someone may understand that a chat window sees the words they type but not expect a desk companion to observe a screen or nearby conversation. Make input states visible, separate camera, microphone, and screen permissions, and offer a hardware or plainly accessible software stop. Memory should have an inspectable purpose and lifecycle. A friendly character cannot substitute for a clear explanation of what is captured and retained.

A useful prototype test

Ask a first-time participant to identify what the interface can currently see, hear, and remember without consulting a manual. Then ask them to stop observation and remove a remembered item. These are proposed usability checks, not findings about AVA. Before building a similar interface, decide whether physical embodiment genuinely helps the task and whether a simpler text or voice interface would make the same controls easier to understand.
